State of the Program 2026

Every August, before the first whistle of the season, we like to stop and look at what this program actually is: more than 60 athletes across Varsity, JV, and Third teams, three affiliated middle school programs feeding into Cape, a coaching staff led by Patrick Kilby, and a community of families and local businesses that makes all of it run.

If you’re new to Cape Soccer, welcome. If you’ve been here for years, this is what your support built.

What we accomplished

On the pitch

  • We fielded three full high school teams, probably delivering the best combined record of three teams in the state (Varsity + JV + Third Team).
  • We invested in the next generation through our Summer Youth Camp (45 campers) and Mont Camp (52 campers), the 3v3 Tournament & BBQ, and Play Days (24 teams) that bring younger kids onto the pitch.
  • We celebrated our people with Senior Night, the Alumni Game, and the end-of-season banquet that brings all three teams’ families together.
  • We sent the Varsity squad on a college tour trip, combining competitive matches with a real look at what playing at the next level means.

Behind the scenes

The least visible work matters just as much, and this is where your booster volunteers have been busy:

  • We lowered the cost of playing Cape soccer. Stronger fundraising means the boosters now cover costs that used to land on families including summer league fees, summer training, media day, and team gear for every player. That’s the whole point of the fundraising asks you see on this site: every sponsorship and family gift directly reduces what the next family has to pay.
  • We built the tools to run the program like it deserves. This website, the online store, and the volunteer sign-up system replaced a patchwork of paper forms, group texts, and cash envelopes. So signing forms, claiming a volunteer slot, ordering gear, and giving all happen in one place, in minutes.
  • We professionalized our books. The boosters’ finances moved from a spreadsheet to QuickBooks this year, which means real accounting, cleaner reporting, and the ability to show families exactly where every dollar goes, starting with the numbers below.

The numbers, in the open

We believe families deserve to see where the money goes, so here it is — every year since the boosters incorporated:

Grouped column chart of booster income and expenses by year. Income grew from about $18,000 in 2019 to about $53,000 in 2025, with expenses tracking just below income in most years.

Since 2019, this community has raised $216,538 and invested $184,914 directly into the program, and annual income has grown from $18,016 to $53,286, nearly tripling in seven years. Two things stand out in that chart:

  1. Expenses track income. We’re not sitting on your money, roughly 85 cents of every dollar raised has already gone back into players, with the rest held as a working reserve so we can commit to things like the trip house before fundraising catches up.
  2. The growth is what lowered your costs. The jump from ~$18k years to ~$53k years is exactly what lets the boosters absorb summer league, summer training, media day, and team gear instead of billing families for them.

We’re also grateful to our business sponsors, whose banners you see at every home game: GreenTop Lawn & Landscaping, Inclind, SeaScape Property Management and Activ Pest Solutions. They reach 1,500+ local followers through our social channels — and they’re a big part of why family giving can stay optional and flexible.

Where we’re going this season

  • August 31: the 3v3 Tournament & BBQ kicks off the season for the whole community, 7–9pm at the high school.
  • September 29 – October 3: the Varsity team travels to the Outer Banks with two matches against North Carolina schools and a campus visit at Batten University, where players will tour, meet the coaching staff, and watch a college match.
  • November 23: we close the season together at the banquet.

We expect to contribute to the coaching staff’s culture plan / goals and find our teams in the post-season finding success.

How to be part of it

You don’t need to write a big check or run a committee. Here’s the honest ask:

  1. Take one volunteer slot. One. If every family does one, no one does five.
  2. Give what works for your family. Our new Family Supporter option lets families give $50–$150, and every dollar goes straight to equipment, travel, and player experiences. Know a business owner? Sponsorships start at $250 and include stadium banner placement — the deadline to be on this season’s banners is August 26.
  3. Show up. Games, the 3v3, the banquet. A loud, kind sideline is worth more than you think.

The Family Checklist has all of it in one place.

Thank you for being part of this. Go Cape. 🩵💛
